Dr. Jean-Paul Lefave joins team of top colorectal surgeons at Houston Colon

Dr LeFave colorectal surgeonDr. Eric Haas, Chief of Colorectal Surgery at Houston Methodist, is pleased to announce the arrival of Dr. Jean-Paul Lefave as the newest member of the Colon & Rectal Surgery team at Houston Colon. Dr. Lefave completed a double fellowship at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) and is trained in both colorectal surgery and advanced minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Lefave received his MD at New York Medical College in 2009 and has a special focus now on rectal cancer, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis. He brings his expertise in laparoscopic (minimally invasive), single port and robotic colorectal surgery, as well as modern techniques for rectal prolapse and fecal incontinence to both the Methodist Office and the Fannin Office of Houston Colon, where he will be seeing patients.

As a member of Houston Colon, Dr. Lefave is joining a team of four board-certified colorectal surgeons and a licensed nurse practitioner — Drs. Eric Haas, Rachel Ellsworth, Joshua Coursey, and Diego Marines, and Virginia Alagugurusamy, AGACNP-BC, respectively. Together, this surgical team specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus for patient digestive health. Their areas of expertise include colon cancer surgery, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, pilonidal disease, fecal incontinence, perirectral abscess, and more.

Dr. Lefave is the newest surgeon in a team that has pioneered an enhanced form of minimally invasive surgery, which utilizes advanced robotic tools to support opioid-sparing surgical approaches. These methods allow patients to undergo a surgery that produces minimal scarring, less pain, and a quicker recovery that does not rely heavily on potentially addicting drugs. Patients have reported using only Tylenol during their few-week recovery period, as contrasted by traditional surgical methods, which require expensive prescription opioids and several months to return to health. The HoustonColon surgical team’s expertise in this area is why they are recognized as the top 1% of colorectal surgeons in the nation by US News & World Report.

Houston Colon operates in four different office locations in Houston, including Houston Methodist, Fannin, Willowbrook, and Katy. Further details are available on their website, HoustonColon.com.
