TYPES OF COLON SURGERY PERFORMED LAPAROSCOPICALLY:
We perform over 90% of our colon procedures using laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques. Many of the indications for this type of surgery are listed below:
- Colon and rectal cancer
- Colon and rectal polyps that are too large to be safely removed during colonoscopy
- Diverticulitis
- Ulcerative colitis
- Crohn's disease
- Familial adenomatous polyposis
- Rectal prolapse
- Endometriosis of the colon
- Severe constipation refractory to medical therapy
Laparoscopic surgery is safe, effective and can be performed on patients even if they have had prior open surgery or suffer from medical conditions such as diabetes, cardiac and pulmonary disease or morbid obesity.
