About Laparoscopic Colon Surgery |
|
Traditionally, colon operations have been performed through large incisions running up and down the length of the abdomen. The section of the colon is removed, and then the two ends of the bowel are joined back together. Because of the nature of this highly invasive procedure, patients often face a long and difficult healing process.
During minimally invasive laparoscopic colon surgery we use high magnification cameras and specialized operating instruments. All the major maneuvers previously done through the large opening is performed through tiny dime-sized incisions without opening the abdomen to the air. Because surgical trauma is greatly reduced and the scar is much smaller, patients have much less pain and a quicker return to normal intestinal and overall physical activity.
